Recipe
Special Notice:
Boost or Ensure powder is now required for this diet. It reduces the additional Vitamin E needed and provides immune system benefits.
Base Ingredients:
- 23 oz no-sugar-added applesauce
- 23 oz water
- 1 ½ cups kefir or full-fat yogurt with live cultures
- 3 cups quick-cook oatmeal (organic recommended; avoid Quaker brand)
Protein:
- 3 boiled eggs (shells removed)
- 7 oz boiled chicken breast (chopped)
Nutritional Additions:
- 2 tablespoons Vanilla Boost Powder
- ¼ teaspoon Vionate Vitamins & Minerals
- 1 pinch Calcium Carbonate powder
- 1 teaspoon Taurine powder
- 100 mcg Selenium powder
- 1 drop Vitamin E oil (20 IU)
- 1 ½ teaspoons Soybean oil (e.g., Wesson)
- 1 tablespoon Flaxseed oil
Feeding
- Feed 1-2 tablespoons of the mixture daily, along with:
- 1 teaspoon sweet peas (frozen or fresh) and/or
- 1 teaspoon mixed, chopped vegetables (limit high-sugar and starchy vegetables)
- For nursing mothers, increase the staple mixture as needed.
- Limit fruits and vegetables to 1-2 teaspoons per day to maintain a balanced calcium-to-phosphorus (Ca:P) ratio.
Preparation
1. Preparation:
- Dissolve all dry ingredients (Boost/Ensure, Vionate, Calcium Carbonate, Taurine, and Selenium) in water.
- In a large bowl, combine the water mixture, applesauce, and kefir or yogurt. Stir until smooth.
2. Protein Mixture:
- Cut chicken breast into chunks and place in a food processor. Add oils (soybean, flaxseed, and Vitamin E) and process until finely ground.
- Add boiled eggs and pulse until creamy.
3. Combine:
- Add the processed protein mixture to the applesauce mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Slowly incorporate oatmeal, stirring until the mixture is smooth and thick with no lumps.
4. Adjust Consistency:
- Cover and refrigerate for an hour, allowing the oatmeal to absorb the liquid.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a small amount of water to adjust the consistency.
5. Portion and Store:
- Freeze portions in ice cube trays or 2 oz condiment cups. Once frozen, transfer to Ziploc bags for easy storage.
- Refrigerated portions can be stored for up to one week; frozen portions for longer periods.
Notes
- Gradually transition gliders to this diet by mixing it with their current food, increasing the HSG portion by 10% daily.
- The HSG Diet is Ca:P balanced as written. Avoid excessive fruit or greens like spinach, which may disrupt the balance.
- Use only raw, unprocessed ingredients. Avoid added sugars or artificial sweeteners.
This diet does NOT use the shared salad mixes.
